The Vox Populi

Vox Populi means the voice of the people, if you are all wondering.

Wondering why I'm not active again, huh? Well a lot of things happened recently and I prefer not to talk about them, except for one. 9 Days of public speaking training went by like a flash I tell you. I can still remember all the criticism and verbal-whipping I had throughout it. Of course today, was the competition, what I refer to as... WAR. I'm sorry, can't help but to say it because the only song that could motivate me was from 30 Seconds To Mars. Of course, the night before I kinda freaked out. In truth, I didn't expect this to happen...at all.

So today was competition day, woke up in the morning and donned my uniform, clad in a blazer due to prefectorial board formality reasons. AS I make my way to school I whispered my speech to see if I could recite it perfectly. Seeing that problem taken care off, I had a little confidence in me. S we made our way to St. Mary's, yes, the same venue from last year's inter-zone competition.(We being Ms. Sheila the teacher adviser, Mr. Derek KOK AKA the mentor and Johnathan Goh AKA the successor ) And when we reached there I saw a rather familiar face...Trester Kaur, who I dubbed Derek's pseudo-girlfriend...don't ask. And of course we got our breakfast, well most of us, Johnathan didn't eat. And GOD I miss St. Mary's good food that has ridiculously puny portions. So after that we entered the conference hall.

Let me tell you most of them looked intimidating, the competition that is. But in the process of calming myself down, I succumbed to Derek's advice. "Go and have fun, psycho them." He says. So I started talking to Trester, which eventually lead me to talk to the friends she's met and extended to almost the whole of the contestants. So there was a total of 13 schools, namely St. Mary's, Convent Sentul, Chong Hwa, Kiamas, and of cousre, SMP with their dreaded teacher adviser. A boring competition turned out to be rather entertaining. Status report for the prepared speech is:

1st Speaker (St. Mary's) : had a rather interesting topic; Body Language, but the intonation is...yeah.

2nd Speaker (SMP) : Wow, such a contrast from last year... this one is just like a flat-line.

3rd Speaker (Convert Sentul): Very well presented, with no mic at that. Interesting topic but rather informative, still, love the delivery.

4th speaker (not sure from which school) : Had decent delivery until she forgot her speech.

5th speaker (also not sure where she's from) : Very dramatic delivery, but generic topic on teenage blues.

6th speaker AKA Me : Well, Derek said that I lacked confidence in this one, but was more composed. Stumbled on a word though...

7th speaker (not sure) : Started okay, but freaked out.

8th (Kiamas) : TRESTER! Product of unity. Very witty speech, had a slight Chinese slang to it. I find the term Chinjabi very catchy.

9th speaker (SMK Bandar Baru) : Dude, nice speech. Love the snapping fingers and kids dying part. Poverty redefined.

10th Speaker (SMK Las Salle) : Topic had potential, (TV Commercials) but kinda boring...

11th speaker (not sure) : Very funny speech man, but perhaps too funny. But it was rather entertaining. How to speak in public, huh?

12th speaker (not sure too) : Very generic topic, Global warming. Delivery was okay.

13th speaker (Chong Hwa) : The one who got my respect, a Form 1 entering such competition, Derek freaked when he was talking about money. Oh the irony. He also had a standing ovation from the speakers.

Through the course of the competition I had more confidence fueling me. When we were quarantined in the waiting room... the psychological warfare begins. It ended up with Me, Trester, Amirul, and that other guy having a blast dilly-dallying our time there. So we were the calm ones, we even had time to tell jokes, listen to music and just making random noises. While the rest just went tense. When I was called into the quarantine room, and saw the topic "Entertainment", Ms. Sheila's final random topic from yesterday's practice came to mind...."Music" of course I added a little spice here and there. When I came out, I completed the deal that we would reveal the topic, whoever went first. So as Trester went in, I told her the topic for a few seconds' advantage. And Silent-shouted at my 2 other partners-in-crime just before I gave my speech. So I hoped I helped.

I didn't know what happened to the first 5 speakers, I heard the 3rd speaker did good though. But the 7th speaker had a nervous breakdown and puked, she pulled out of the competition as well. I think the lines "The rhapsody waltzing through the ages." "..like the latest phenomenon; Lady Gaga. Bad Romance, anyone?" and "The emotions on the silver screen." saved my speech. Trester quoted Adam Lambert, I think it was because of me. The guy after her did a wonderful speech, it sounded very intelligent, he redefined entertainment by saying that it isn't just the glits and glam but also creativity, he pulled off Issac Newton as an example, very well done. After him, it went significantly down, yet still rather entertaining.

After the competition, everyone had a sense of relief. We were just wasting time and talking. Getting to know each other, and hey me and that guy who talked about poverty might start a band! Derek and Ms. Sheila told me that I didn't have to win, because I did my best, so that was an extra relief. The time went flying so fast we didn't even feel it. And in the end the judges arrived back and we were back in tense mode. We were nervous, but went into a state where we were guessing who the winners are. I guessed that 3rd would go to either me or Trester, 2nd to the guy who talked on poverty who I find very entertaining and 1st would go to the girl from Convent Sentul. The poverty guy told me that I would win 1st but I thought that was preposterous. The results came in.

3rd was.... SMK Kiamas, Trester. So far I thought my prediction was correct.

2nd wen to.... St. Mary's. This is the part where I started panicking if I'm going to disappoint my friends and Derek.

Now here's the part all of you might not expect. The moment the MC said "And the 1st place goes to..." I was half praying it was either me or the poverty guy, or the convent girl. Then the MC continued saying "Contestant number 6, Law Sie Weng from SMK Maxwell." Immediately I went "HOLY SHIT!" to the poverty guy and Trester. Looked at my 3 supporters at the back. Johnathan had a smirk on, Derek was doing epic fist-pumps and Ms Sheila was clapping ever so proudly. I was of course overjoyed but kind of felt that others deserved it. Then I packed up my bags and made my way out, teachers were congratulating me, of course I was thanking them as well. And of course, my favorite part, fangirls, EVERYWHERE. I shook hands with the other speakers and the girls and made my way home. It was truly a once in a life time experience. And a first time feeling like a winner.

On the way home we stopped at Selayang Mall and ate some Popeye's. That was a first too. Stomachs full, we went back home. Talking about the competition along the way. Hearts overjoyed.

I truly miss new-found friends. And how Trester is an expert in making love....letters. Too bad life goes on, eh? I wished I could re-live the moment.

The rest is silence.

Quote of the day: "I'm an expert in making love...letters." -Trester Kaur on her talents.

Insanity of the Day:

"If the teacher told me to talk about Silence in impromptu I would *stands quietly* there, silence" -Amirul on ridiculous impromptu topics.

Oh Star...

"Oh star, fall down on me..... let me make a wish upon you...."

Those are the first words in the lyrics of Oh Star by Paramore. And that sentence keeps playing itself in my head, over and over like a broken record.

Oh the things I wished to be granted. I wished I was one step closer in reaching her heart. I wished she wouldn't be so ignorant. I wished my decisions are always right. I wished I wasn't born into a household and raised by greedy jackasses. I wished I could undo the wrongs I did in my life. I wish the world isn't superficial.

Sorry, for some reason, I'm feeling rather down today. I'm not sure why. But listening to this song, it just made me want to blog, about my wishes that will never come true.

P.S. Life isn't fair.

The Superficial World.

Oh the world, oh the fucking superficial world.

You know what was funny? The fact that school counselors "council" you on how to get the word A typed 8 - 9 types vertically with the subjects you took in the SPM paper diagonally placed on the left side printed in poor quality that's supposed to worth "a lot" and that my friends is what we call... a certificate. Purpose? To get a good job and a great starting salary.

First of all I'd like to question...what IS the school counselor's job? No, not to teach you Malaysia's marking scheme for SPM. To quote, "they will help you to get through your life, so consult to them" is truly laughable, sure government exams in Malaysia will ensure a great future, I will address that matter later. But seriously, students don't only have exam stress, what about their family problems? relationship problems and what not? Don't they consist of a student's "life"?

Now seeing my friends from Science stream go on a desperate struggle to get straight As and seeing people from my class desperately copying answers just to get good marks in exams is truly one of the most funniest things on earth to date. Now I can't help but to stress this out, the original definition of education worldwide is "To build fruitful and civilized citizens for a country". Now let me ask you, does worrying about a piece of paper make you anymore civilized than you are? If you answered No, you just got my utmost respect. You see, the world has gotten VERY superficial, like Megan Fox or any other "beautiful" women making guys crave for girls who are only all looks, but have they even the slightest hint of the inside of that person? Or companies only hiring graduates of high caliber, now...graduates of high caliber weren't the mastermind behind Genting Highlands or the Berjaya Sdn. Bhd. Lim Goh Tong, founder of the City of Entertainment AKA Genting Highlands was but only an immigrant from China during the revolution of Kuala Lumpur, he only studied elementary school and yet with the creativity he had, he sparked the idea of gambling as a source of income, which later evolved into a large-scale casino complete with 4 resorts and 2 theme parks. And what about the founder of Berjaya Sdn. Bhd.? Let me tell you, ol' Vincent was just a part time worker at a local McDonald's, but look at how far he's gotten. But now? hmph, all the companies want "high-caliber graduates" to take their place? answer me this, I'm planning to be either a graphics/game designer, an attorney or a psychologist, now must I pass my economics, financial studies, history or maths?

Then this is a habit I loathe, which all parents do to their kids, they boast about how smart or talented, or how much of a little angel their kids are, but in reality, those are nothing but pointless conjecture to keep a "good image", like my mom who lies to my aunts and uncles along with my cousins about how I do in school, or my attitude, now I have to be a good little angel to everyone because of her lies. There's a famous Malaysian quote... "Take all the good and throw out the bad" but with only the good, how will people see the bad? Lies begets more lies, actually, the more you try to cover up, the more mean the cycle becomes and when it all falls down, it's gonna bite you hard. Again this leads to how superficial the world has truly become.

Society today thinks that outer appearance defines what's within, that was what Alicia Keys sang in her chart topper "If I ain't got you". Truly words of the wise, those few words in her powerful lyrics just defined the whole world and all that's within it. Society has grown ignorant and all but superficial, times have changed and superiority and position reigns supreme, there is where my seed of loathe for this current generation lies. I once promised to myself, when I get married, I want to be the best father and husband I can be, I want to have an open mind, not to simply judge someone or something at first glance and that resolution is still in my heart at all times. This current generation has already caused collateral damage to the mindsets of today, and if no one is going to stand up for me, I couldn't care less (Quote from Miss Sheila Rocky: You're fighting a losing battle Jonathan, teachers won't stand up for you when there is a major crisis, no, not even your respected Encik Zainuddin or Puan Raja.) , I'll do it myself.

In conclusion, to my beloved readers... be the best that you can be and open up your senses to reality, all things are flawed and cannot be perfect, be yourself and stop being superficial.

Out of the frying pan and into the freezer.

Well, it's been nearly a week since my return from Indonesia. I didn't have time to blog because of my laziness, due to the amount of things I have to blog about.

Here goes. See the reason I didn't wanna go to Indonesia was because of where I live there, the food's bad, the girls are...mehh and there's only 3 friggin' malls, in 3 years....they only built 2 more....wow. Also my stay at the little town outside of Jakarta known as Depok isn't FUN, it's like a baby-sitting job that doesn't pay at since I have to take care of my 3 year-old twin nephews.

But, on a different note, the heart of the country, Jakarta is a different story, though the pollution is nothing less than displeasing, progress on the city has bettered itself, roads don't get stuck in traffic jams much, and the malls there have improved, so has the social well being of the citizens. Every single block you to, every single street has a mall, that's something rather new to me since Malaysia has less.

Not only that, the entertainment industry has greatly improved, Indonesian artists make much better local tunes than Malaysia has ever did, they create something original, not used. For instance, my latest band fetish Vierra, they make great songs, powerful music and lyrics. Or local movies are shot at a decent camera quality, I immediately fell in love with a movie called Laskar Pelangi which tells of the struggle of a group of elementary school kids, the plot is diverse and complete.

Speaking about love, I think I just fell for my cousin's bestie, unfortunately, she lives in Jakarta and the only way I can talk to her is via Facebook, but no matter, someone told me to be patient and so I will. When will I ever be able to meet you? *sigh*

Also on the other note, my extortion of cash from my aunts is a success, I finally got myself a Nintendo DS Lite. For those of you who know my hate for Nintendo would be shooting me right now for being a hypocrite, but some NDS games are too good to resist, so I had to get one.

Then there's the cinemas of Indonesia....walking to each one of them is like walking into a 5-star hotel, since it's plain "wow" they have arcades, comfortable seats, good food and great movies shown at a reasonable price of approximately 25,000Rp - 30,000Rp, which is about 8 ringgit to 10 ringgit.

My cousins are also the people I love and I will miss them for the next 11 months, since chances are I'll be going again in 2010, anyone who wants to come with me are always welcome. And no, Indonesia isn't just bout Bali, there are other great places to see, 37 states in all, and a large metropolis of a city to hang around with.

Well, as 2010 is just hours away, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, may you successfully achive your new year's resolution. Ciao.

An update.

Yeeeeeeah, haven't been blogging for awhile, but why not now eh? So ok, reasons why I haven't been blogging, my laziness of course and my PS3. Apparently, Ritchie has been coming over as my Resident Evil 5 partner, and I thought that game was just a one shot game with no replay value, but there's more than meets the eye, there's tons of unlockables to make the game fun, like god-like guns or alternate costumes. And offline co-op play is just so damn fun, beats trying to direct a dumbass AI to do something.

On that note, I seriously don't know what to get next for my PS3 , so much for endless fun, eh?

Also today, me and my friend was just entrusted to design the Prefectorial Board's T-shirt and the Prefectorial Board's Crest/Badge/Emblem, whatever you call it, so yeah folks, I'm gonna curb stomp my own mark in Fagswell's history, awesome huh? and finally I can get some reputation in that joint.

Yesterday, I also visited SMAKL (Sekolah Menegah Agama Kuala Lumpur) for some road safety for motorcycles seminar for an excuse to skip school, it was dull as shit, though the girls from the other schools that came were so my taste, I didn't get any numbers since the schools came in masses of 30's. And walking miles just to find a mini-market selling drinks then running back full circle uphill and downhill of the housing complex (SMAKL is located in a secluded housing area) 'cuz of a low blow prank my fag friend did. My thighs are aching.

Also apparently, at the '09 VMAs at MTV, Kanye West mocked Taylor Swift after she won her 1st best female singer award by snatching the mic from her and saying (I swear to God this was his exact words) "Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for ya, and Imma let you finish but Beyonce has one of the best videos of all time, OF ALL TIME!!" proves how much of a douchebag Kanye is.

So yeah, guess I'll be real busy during the holidays with the designs and gaming going on. That is all folks and you've been filled in.

P.S. Look what I found when I was google-ing for a higher resolution for my school badge needed for the T-shirt design: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxwell_School I can't help but to laugh my ass off.

Remembering Sunday...

The Song:

Lyrics:

He woke up from dreaming and put on his shoes
Started making his way past 2 in the morning
He hasn't been sober for days

Leaning now into the breeze
Remembering Sunday, he falls to his knees
They had breakfast together
But two eggs don't last
Like the feeling of what he needs

Now this place seems familiar to him
She pulled on his hand with a devilish grin
She led him upstairs, she led him upstairs
Left him dying to get in

Forgive me, I'm trying to find
My calling, I'm calling at night
I don't mean to be a bother,
But have you seen this girl?
She's been running through my dreams
And it's driving me crazy, it seems
I'm going to ask her to marry me

Even though she doesn't believe in love,
He's determined to call her bluff
Who could deny these butterflies?
They're filling his gut

Waking the neighbors, unfamiliar faces
He pleads though he tries
But he's only denied
Now he's dying to get inside

Forgive me, I'm trying to find
My calling, I'm calling at night
I don't mean to be a bother,
But have you seen this girl?
She's been running through my dreams
And it's driving me crazy, it seems
I'm going to ask her to marry me

The neighbors said she moved away
Funny how it rained all day
I didn't think much of it then
But it's starting to all make sense
Oh, I can see now that all of these clouds
Are following me in my desperate endeavor
To find my whoever, wherever she may be

[Juliet Simms:]
I'm not coming back (forgive me)
I've done something so terrible
I'm terrified to speak (I'm not calling, I'm not calling)
But you'd expect that from me
I'm mixed up, I'll be blunt, now the rain is just (You're driving me crazy, I'm)
Washing you out of my hair and out of my mind
Keeping an eye on the world,
From so many thousands of feet off the ground, I'm over you now
I'm at home in the clouds, and towering over your head

[Alex Gaskarth:]
Well I guess I'll go home now...
I guess I'll go home now...
I guess I'll go home now...
I guess I'll go home

It's a beautiful song huh? The lyrics are powerful, and I really do love it, I hope you do as well.

Ring a Bell by Bonnie Pink

Here's something for you music fanatics out there, this is a Japanese song translated and sung by the same artist; Bonnie Pink, yup, she's Japanese, but how cool is that? a Jap singing English, one day she might rival Utada Hikaru too! >< I really think this is a meaningful song for all of you to listen.

Therefore, I will leave you to enjoy the vid itself and the lyrics. Till next time, Adios Munchacho!

The trials and PMR.....

Well... it's gonna be crappy alwhile here, with the PMR coming and trials going on next week, well people are kinda getting outta their minds. Oh, but what the heck? ^^ It's just exams, to all my friends, study hard~! And ace those subjects, let fate do the rest. It's just gonna be few weeks, guys. So don't be afraid, and never surrender, like this song is telling us.

The time has come and so have I
I'll laugh last cause you came to die
The damage done~the pain subsides
And I can see the fear clear when I look in your eye.
~
I never kneel and I'll never rest
You can tear the heart from my chest
I'll make you see what I do best,
I'll succeed as you breathe your very last breath.
~
Now I know how the angel fell [just kneel]
I know the tale and I know it too well [just bow]
I'll make you wish you had a soul to sell [soul to sell]
When I strike you down and send you straight to hell
~
My army comes from deep within
Beneath my soul--beneath my skin
As you're ending, I'm about to begin
My strength~His bane~and I will never give in.
~
I'll tell you now I'm the one to survive
You never break my faith or my stride
I'll have you choke on your own demise
I make the angel scream, and the devil cry
~v~
My honored brethren
My honored brethren
~
We come together
We come together
~
To unite as one
To unite as one
~
Against those that are damned
Against those that are damned
~
We show no mercy
We show no mercy
~
For we have none
For we have none
~
Our enemy shall fall
Our enemy shall fall
~
As we apprise
As we apprise
~
To claim our fate
To claim our fate
~
Now and forever
Now and forever
~
We'll be together
We'll be together
~
In love and in hate
In love and in hate
~v~
They will see. We'll fight until eternity
Come with me We'll stand and fight together
Through our strength we'll make a better day
Tomorrow we shall never surrender. [X4]
~
[Whisper] We shall never surrender [X2]

uhh....I know it's kinda hellish, but I still think it's a good song.^^ I would like to say to PMR candidates, GOOD LUCK! Especially, well, you know who you are. Well, Adios Munchacho!

Man....I love this song. Reminds me of....

Here's one of my all time fave song, just to share with you guys^^ It's called I'll Try by Jonathan Brooke.

I am not a child now.
I can take care of myself.
I mustn't let them down now-
Mustn't let them see me cry.
I'm fine.I'm fine.

I'm to tired to listen.
I'm too old to believe:
All these childish stories.
There is no such thing as faith,
And trust,
And pixie dust.

I try,
But its to hard to believe.
I try,
But I can't see what you see.
I try.
I try.
I try.

My whole world is changing,
I don't know where it'll turn.
I can't leave you waiting,
But I cant stay and watch the sitting burn;
Watch it burn.'

Cause I try,
But its so hard to believe.
I try,
But I can't see where you see.
I try.
I try.
I try and try,
To understand,
The distance in between:
The love I feel,
The things i fear,
And every single dream.

I can finally see it.
Now I have to believe:
All those precious stories.
how the world is made of faith,
And trust,
And pixie dust.

So I'll try,
'Cause I finally believe.
I'll try,
'Cause I see where you see.
I'll try.
I'll try,
I'll try,
I'll try-
To fly.

August 1st

Note:I just made a blog and I have no idea how to make one, talk about out-dated....

Well, yesterday was Canteen day at school, but well it was kinda dissappointing, cuz it's the most boring one... I played video games to my heart's content of course, and since I helped the guys who made the stall, I get to play free-of-charge! Hell Yeah!!!! Btw, MTV Asia Awards are tommorow! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A day before Canteen day, my class got forced to clean some ikan bilis for the nasi lemak stall by the giant-like, shouting, show-off, bitch-ass Mrs. Kang, our science teacher. Of course, being forced to do so we were pissed and lazy, but after awhile, some of us started talking about ghosts out-loud and Kang heard it, we expected her to tell us to shut the f*ck up, but she said "so...you all really wanna know about ghosts...?" we were suprised of course, then she just started to talk about true horror stories in my school...so yeah....cleaning ikan bilis at that time seems fun.

A picture of an anime character, some say this guy looks like me O.O

Seta Soji from Persona 4
